Hi there. This is me:

My name is izi, a computational linguist deeply passionate about biodiversity and the preservation of botanical and agricultural heritage knowledge.

Currently, I’m based on a farm in the Tuscan hills, where I work remotely on informatics projects, random illustrations, and linguistics.

My week: Nourishing my inner nerd from Monday to Wednesday and cultivating my inner farmer and creative soul from Thursday to Sunday.

ciao!

# coding

For projects with and without friends, I develop websites and databases with a thematic focus on art & culture, biodiversity, agriculture, design, typography, and other cool topics.

I mainly work with Python, Vue.js, and Angular, but I also enjoy shell scripts, database architecture and playing around with maps, eg. OpenLayers, and Linked Open Data.

research coding projects:
  • BOTANICAL NER: Named Enity Recognition pipeline to detect and extract scientific and vernacular plant names from German and English texts. (Master of Arts | UZH Zurich)
  • biodiversity linked open data: Application of pipeline to digitized botanical works in collab with plazi.org to make species-related information available as Linked Open Data (Workshop | UZH Zurich)
  • species distribution ATLAS: frontend web and database development for endangered mushroom and lichen species and geo-distributed data (GIS group | WSL Zurich)
  • LD-LFI: conversion pipeline for Linked Open Data for visualizing forest data (GIS group | WSL Zurich)

# activideas

Watch out, ideas are fermenting, boiling, bubbling, sparkling! To fuel collective learning by decomposing social constructs and patterns.

in fermentation:
  • re-sparkle the world through tarot cards: tarot.izitreal.space
  • dive into botanical illustration through focused observation of nature.
  • create natural colors and explore territories through their pigments.
  • explore the intersection of agriculture, nature, and art.
  • teach and learn with others about edible plants and self-sufficiency.
  • re-imagine countryside patterns: cultivate collective feminist safe spaces on farms.
  • learn and grow together—no judgment for failures!
  • provide bread: no more bread from the store, just homemade sourdough with local flour.
  • candle making: repurpose wax and leftovers to light the fire in your heart.

learning from:
  • my mam (greatest teacher of them all!)
  • Pedagogia ciclica (Political and educational perspective on menstruation, Pedagogia ciclica, 2025)
  • PDC 72h (women's Permaculture Design Course | L'asino e la luna, 2024)
  • Intro to Permaculture (Bosco di Ogigia | online, 2023)
  • Pruning olive trees(Vivaio Belfiore | 2023)
  • Pruning fruit trees (ProSpecieRara | 2022)
  • Seeds (ProSpecieRara | 2019)
